We put up nest boxes high up on trees for the wildlife in the area. Many animals rely on natural tree hollows for shelter. This is where they nest, rest and breed. It's their safe home from the elements and predators.
Natural tree hollows are actually not easy to come by, because they take over 70 years to develop. Careless human activity has left some areas depleted of these natural hollows.
That's where nest boxes come in. They are not a long-term solution, because we are still learning about what different species need when it comes to designing the nest box. Generally nest boxes last around ten years, while natural hollows can go up to more than a century.
If you are interested to have some nest boxes in your area, it is necessary to do some research about the wildlife, and make sure you engage the services of a professional arborist who has the right equipment and tools to put up these nest boxes.
Let's see which little family chooses to live in these nest boxes! Look up if you are in the area and you may just see some little guests making themselves comfortable. Be very quiet if you spot them!
